About

My name is Daniella Mukwada

Zazi means “know yourself.”
Our mission is to ensure no African girl has to figure out life alone.

We’ve been there. We’re rising higher.
And now, we’re here for you.

The Zazi Project was birthed out of my own experience as a young African girl in Australia who struggled to find guidance after high school. I didn’t know who to ask, where to turn, or how to connect with people who were already where I wanted to be. Navigating identity, culture, and expectations in the diaspora often felt confusing and lonely — and I realised so many other African girls were going through the same thing.

The Zazi Project exists to change that.

We are more than big sisters & brothers — we are professionals, entrepreneurs, visionaries, filmmakers, creatives, academics, and young African women who are actively shaping our futures. Each mentor brings lived experience, ambition, and real-world knowledge to support the young people coming after us.

We create a safe, empowering space where African youths age 16-19 can connect with older African women who understand the journey, have overcome the same challenges, and are committed to guiding the next generation. Through mentorship, real conversations, and community, we help youth grow in confidence, identity, and purpose.
